North Island Communication Enhancement Project

Since 2013, Telcospec have worked with a major client to replace and/or improve their existing fibre optic links between Wellington and Auckland. The upgrade has seen the design & installation of steel duct across over 40 rail bridges, design & construction of thousands of metres of supported galvanized steel duct above ground, over 500kms of pneumatic cable blowing, as well as the splicing and termination of the cable at numerous locations along the network.

As part of the N.I.C.E 4 project, Telcospec was subcontracted to install the bridge crossings, install the cable, splice the cable and electronically record and plot the route, whilst engaging and liaising with the civil construction contractors.

This was a complex design and construction job which had a huge focus on safety due to the demanding tranche of work given the rugged environment and regulatory conditions. Telcospec undertook the design of the bridge crossings and completed all the other tasks with our own vehicles and plant to the high satisfaction of our client.

The job commenced in March 2016 and was completed in December 2019. Telcospec demonstrated a high level of compliance with regard to quality and safety, with minimal issues for the client.
